about monica madison
straight from the hip version
I was born in the late 60s and adopted by my Aunt Sarah and Uncle John who were already in their senior years when my fast butt arrived. My uncle drove a taxi and my aunt stayed at home with all of us kids. As I was a tomboy, I remember attending church and ripping the dress off of my body as soon as we reached home. I also recall their vain attempts to send me to etiquette class. All I had to do was run to my uncle in tears (sooo drama-like) and those classes were a thing of the past.
In high school I would sit down in front of my grandmother's typewriter and write fictitional stories about my sister. My favortie was "How My Sister Bought A Prom Date" and passed it along to the student body. Oooh, she wasn't too happy about that!
A life experience forced me to come to the realization that its not "always about Monica". My brother, Darnell was tragically ill and I took care of him no questions asked while also juggling motherhood and taking care of my aunt. My happy go lucky world took a turn and I grew up overnight.
While working at the Screen Actors Guild, I was able to write my first screenplay based on those experiences. And soon after published my first novel "Girl from the Gutter". While in the midst of a mojito moment I realized that writing about events in my life appeals to me the most and thus "realist fiction" was created. My upcoming novel "I've Been Known To Get Wild" takes on a twist filled with love, deception and the power of a Heffa!
